Sages Lea development to offer affordable homes for local people

As part of Rural Housing Week, Exeter-based Cornerstone Housing Ltd and Greendale Investment Ltd invited parish councillors and members of the local housing community to their rural housing scheme at Sages Lea, Woodbury Salterton, Devon.

More than 15 guests visited the Sages Lea development in Woodbury Salterton, due for completion in Spring 2013, which will comprise three homes for shared ownership, 10 properties available at Affordable Rents and 5 houses for sale on the open market.

Priority for the rented and shared ownership homes will be given to local people in housing need from the Parish of Woodbury who live or work in the Parish or who have a strong continuous connection with the Parish. Priority will also be given to key workers in East Devon employed by the Emergency Services, qualified teachers, social workers, healthcare workers or working in Agriculture.   The advert will be opened up to the rest of East Devon, if after 6 weeks of advertising, there are insufficient applicants from the Parish meeting the criteria.

Full details of the local lettings criteria will be attached to the Devon Home Choice advert in due course and applicants will be required to provide evidence of their local connection.

Those fitting the criteria and interested in renting a property need to first register their details with Devon Home Choice either online at www.devonhomechoice.org.uk or ring East Devon District Council on 01395 5156551 to request an application form.

The shared ownership houses (two of which are three bed and one two bed) are currently being advertised and people fitting the criteria, need to register with South West Homes www.southwesthomes.org.uk  or ring 0300 100 0021 as soon as possible.

The development also provides other benefits for the Parish including:- a new 5-aside football pitch, funding for new play equipment and the provision of new allotments.

For general information about the project please ring Cornerstone on 01392 273462.

PLANNING FOR NON-PLANNERS

Would your community group benefit from training in aspects of town planning?

Planning Aid is a national charity that provides free and independent professional planning advice and free training packages to individuals and communities unable to afford the services of a planning consultant.

Your regional branch, South West Planning Aid, is currently programming a number of training sessions across the region, covering these key topics:

1                    How do I make a planning application (do I need to make one?)

2                    How do I influence or stop a planning application?

3                    How can I use the planning system to improve my area?

4                    Making effective representations – how to have your say

5                    Making sense of planning applications – understanding plans and documents

If you are interested in any of the above, please contact the Parish Council advising which topics are of particular interest to you and we will volunteer to host one of these workshops.
